Where To Find Your Inspiration For Inspiration?
Finding inspiration isn't that hard. It's rather easy, in fact. The problem that arises is what to do with that inspiration. I'll see a film, listen to a song, see a work of art, or someone that is finding some way to express themselves in a truly astonishing way, and get that "feeling". You know the one? Your heart begins to race. Suddenly, you feel energized and there's this belief that comes over you that all things are possible. Especially that one particular thing you feel inspired to create. And at that very moment, at the peak of your excitement, it all comes crashing down in a very uninspiring way. I'm suddenly left with the big question, "Now what the hell do I create?".
Some times I instantly have an idea and ready to roll with it. But more often than not, I'm left with this soul crushing emptiness because I have no clue where to start. I'm inspired, but have no product of inspiration. No tangible thing that is "inspired by...". This leads me days, even weeks, of doing nothing creative because I just can't come up with an idea. It's a downward spiral from there. But recently, I've been finding it a bit easier to break free from this horrific cycle. Now, I haven't killed the cycle all together, but rather found it easier to not stay down for too long.
I was going through one of drives where I've got thousands of images stored in an attempt to get rid of things I don't need. I revisited a lot of old photos I'd completely forgotten. Some of the images were ones I thought I didn't want or like. As I was deleting these images, I suddenly found myself becoming inspired. The deleting of these images was actually sparking new ideas. I even found a way to repurpose a few of them. Opening up a little space on the old hard drive ended up opening a doorway to inspiration! You might say that I sort of found inspiration for inspiration.
Cheers!
